The Seed Grant
Program
was established by the NKU Research Foundation to support and strengthen
faculty research by providing funding for initiating research that will
lead to developing externally funded grant proposals.

Eligibility:
Faculty
must be tenured or have tenure-track appointment at time of
application. Faculty may hold only one Seed Grant at a time.
Funds may be used
for expenses directly related to the development of the external
proposal(s):

Travel Funds
(e.g. to work with collaborators or mentors, etc.)
-
Student or
hourly assistants
-
Supplies or
software
-
Other expenses
critical to development of a successful external support proposal
Note: Funds can
not be used for faculty release time or replacement expenses.
Restrictions/Conditions:
Seed Grant proposals
will be reviewed by the NKU Research Advisory Council who will provide
evaluations and recommendations to Dr. Salina Shrofel, Graduate Dean and
Associate Provost for Research. All final Seed Grant award decision(s)
rest with Dr. Shrofel. Grantees will be
required to provide scheduled progress reports to the Research, Grants,
and Contracts (RGC) Office and to submit at least one major proposal (>
$10,000) to an external funding source within one year of award.
Failure to provide all the required Seed Grant application
materials may result in the application being rejected. Failure to
submit a major proposal within one year will result in the PI becoming
ineligible to receive any future Seed Grant funding.
How to Apply:
Submit the following application materials
in hard copy format
to the NKU Research Foundation in 616 Lucas Administration Building.
All items should be typed utilizing 12 point font:

At least one (or
more as appropriate), Abstract of External Proposal to be
Developed using the required format and identifying the external
funding source(s) [see detailed information in guidelines and forms].

Seed Grant
Summary and Budget
describing timing and proposed use of the Seed Grant funding
including a detailed budget for funds.
Notification
of Action and Handling of the Grant Account:
Applicants will be notified by the RGC Office of the status of their
application approximately three weeks after submission. Unless a longer
timeline is approved, all funding must be used within one year of the
grant; unused funds will revert back to the Seed Grant Fund. All Seed
Grants will terminate when recipients’ appointments at NKU come to an
end, and unused funds will revert to the Seed Grant Fund
